Doug Kaye: Let's Talk (Mill Valley Film Festival) It was billed as being, "unlike any Indian film you've ever seen," and that's certainly the case. Far from the typical whacky musical, this is a starkly realistic and at times disturbing drama filmed in DV. The concept: A woman who is pregnant (but not by her husband) imagines seven scenarios that might play out when she tells her husband. It's a tour de force for Boman Irani, the actor in the role of the husband. There's occasional comic relief, but for the most part this is intense, believeable and remarkably western. We were taken by how much this couple's life is like that of an American couple's. No distributor yet, and it may not get one. But if it gets to a theatre near you, by all means see it.

Golden Sunshine

Thanks to my friend, Dana Kay, this afternoon I got out in the sunshine for a while. We went to the California Palace of the Legion of Honor, where we had a picnic on the lawn before perusing the paintings and sculpture inside. BTW, Tuesdays are free thanks to FMC — though you do have to put up with hoards of art students busily sketching... Afterwards we drove around the Presidio where I snagged a couple of pictures. It was a beautiful day!

The walls are made from palm trees and the roof is plastic sheeting.
Richie hopes to make the island totally self-sustainable and is growing food including tomatoes.

Wolfback Ridge, Sausalito, CA

We've had absolutely beautiful weather the past few days in San Francisco and thanks to my friend, Dana Kay, I was able to get out and enjoy some of it. Wednesday I took my bike over to Sausalito. We took Dana's sheltie, Chelsea, for a walk, then went for a short cruise on her trawler, Kaleidoscope, and finished the day with a short bike ride around Sausalito's many marinas. Yesterday we went for a much longer ride from Sausalito to Mill Valley. This has to be one of the greatest bike rides anywhere — beautiful scenery and virtually flat terrain. Thanks, Dana Kay!
