I share John Udell's concern about "information workers". I propose a seven layer model of "cognitive energy manipulators", shown here from top to bottom:

I'm reading an annotated version of Blake's The Marriage of Heaven and Hell. It's brilliant and relevant even now. One of his biographers called him the first casualty of the industrial age, an observation that illuminates much of his work for me. As I type on this machine, I'm painfully aware of what he railed against. 8:56:14 AM |

Hooked up with a few GTA bloggers tonight at the Meetup thing (like the car thing - you know who you are... ). When it comes to finding people, saying you'll meet them at the Mad is like saying you'll meet them in Quebec - a tad vague. Anyway, we found each other by 8 and it was kickin' except or because we ended up quaffing Outer Sheaths on the roof.
Hooked up with Brent, one of the BlogChat guys. I had just looked at this, courtesy of Pat, but had no idea it was a Canuck thing. Yeah! |

6:35 AM. Driving up Yonge Street to the 401, blissfully empty but for joggers and power walkers. I count 23 women and one man in the space of about five blocks. Apparently men don't get up early for this kind of thing. Watching people power walk makes me want to stop and say, look, just run already, OK? You might as well. You've got the shorts, the shoes, the gear. And you look ridiculous moving your arms like that. Then I think, yeah, but someday I'll end up power walking and have to dine at my word buffet yet again.
It's hot and humid already, probably 25 degrees, and sunny. This part of Yonge street is beautiful in the morning. |

You have to wonder what evolutionary strategy has carried the June bug this far. They can barely fly or walk, they're noisy beyond belief for a bug and their navigation system is second only to the moth. I bet they taste like crap.
June bug brambles across Geometric concrete expanse Uncertain and halting on every axis Acutely aware of a brief opportunity Unable to make the most of it Buzz-saw frustration fills the night 9:55:43 AM |
