Help. I want to know how to find the lifetime voting record of any congressman. For example, Jesse Helms the departing ultra-conservative senior senator from NC. Anyone who can point me to a means of getting that information (legislative identifier, vote, short description of the bill) for any congressman, please send a note to downey@cicada.com or feel free to reply using comments to this post.
After working on this a couple of different times for a couple of hours, I am at a loss for how to proceed. There must be a relatively direct means of finding this information. Many thanks. |

All kinds of excitement last night. Around 4:00a gumball tree nearly three feet in diameter fell on part of my house. WHAM! Just like that. The tree fell between the aging greenhouse and the main structure of my home. The tree fell squarely on a covered patio area but also damaged the greenhouse, an unheated room off of the basement and one corner of my house. Nobody was injured. When it fell through the roof of the covered patio, it took out two industrial grade stainless steel photographic sinks, easily costing $2,000 to replace. It also took out a couple of cabinets that were built to hold enlargers. the cabinets were 8'x3'x3' and 6'x3'x3' respectively.
Those four items, the sinks and the cabinets, had become the core of my slowly-approaching basement darkroom. For the next few days, I think I'll just hold my breath and see how much of this damage will be covered by homeowner's insurance. |

Today is a special day in the life of my yet to be born darkroom. The furnace is being moved out of the darkroom part of my basement and into the crawlspace. 7:40:15 AM comments |

Nuclear Fallout from the 1950s Great. Who would have ever thought it, that we didn't know enough about nuclear reactions and nuclear fallout in the 1950s? I am sure we know everything we need to know now, right, I mean about nuclear reactors, nuclear weapons, and other environmental hazards -- global warming for instance. So called conservatives are as unconservative with the natural environment as any child in a toy store with a pocket full of cash. It bothers me, that as a nation, we continually listen to voices of greediness over voices of environmental protection. It bothers me to see our national leaders dismiss concerns about the environment. I wonder if the same people would dismiss concerns from their accountant about their monetary situation. No, they would listen. We as a people, should listen to the opinions that project worst-case scenarios for the environment. We should actively plan to avoid those scenarios. Make money doing it, fine, but get the priority straight.
