Voices

.... listed in no special order. In fact, I will re-arrange the order as this list grows, just for fun.

Don't focus on the subject areas of these weblogs as such. Hack the Planet (see below) is unashamedly geared to propellerheads. But Wes' approach is just as relevant for teachers, sports fanatics and wine enthusiasts.

Learn how to Speak In Your Own Voice. Otherwise, why blog?

How Duncan's Doing

A family follows the progress of a loved one caught in a terrible car accident. Simple. Straightforward. Not maudlin. Heart-breaking. Real.

Detail and Pattern

Photographs. Paintings. Details of photographs linked to the complete photograph or painting. No words. Yet, a voice comes through with elegant clarity.

Hack The Planet

One of the all-time best uses of concise linking. Wes shows us his mind at work through zen-like indirection. By choosing links that really matter to him, not just because he is following the crowd. Ponder that carefully. You reveal yourself with every link you post. Link to stuff that actually matters to you. Don't link from laziness just to admire your page.

Scripting News

Of course. But learn its real lessons: you build a community from years of stolid, persistent, consistent, faithful posts that stem from your own authentic passion. I said, 'you', not Dave. You can do it, if you bring the same patient commitment.

The Shifted Librarian

Where does she find the time? Oh, never mind. Jenny Levine is pioneering an entire subfield of library science, using weblogging as an experimental laboratory.

Microsoft FrontPage Support Radio Weblog

An example of choosing a subject domain that really matters to a group of people and then 'sticking to the knitting'. Much the same is true for my weblog here. In this kind of weblog, the author wants to disappear to some degree behind the topic. A weblog's spirit of integrity differs somewhat depending on its focus.
