| Russ Lipton Documents Radio simplex veri sigillum Why Are You A Windows Bigot? Are you kidding? I hate Windoze. I love the Mac.
This said, the differences between these two platforms have shrunk considerably over the past decade - can't blame Gates for that. In any case, my reasons for focusing nearly entirely on Windows and Microsoft's Internet Explorer for Windows are: 1. 90% of the world uses their stuff. 2. It is outrageously complex to document anything for one platform yet alone for two and a half (Mac Classic and OS/X are almost the same but ...). Now, see 1 above. 3. While there are some UI and performance nuances between these platforms, Userland does a marvelous job of delivering precisely the same features across all supported platforms. Macintosh Radio users should be able to make the needed mental translation between my use of the label 'Windows' and the Windows screen captures. Again see 1 above. I had to choose something for illustrative purposes. This said, and all kidding aside, I wish I could target both platforms at the same time. I do greatly appreciate the Macintosh user interface and platform. I bought the original Mac on its first ship day in 1984 and still have it. Alas, the screen is dead. If that isn't convincing enuf, try this. My father-in-law (a then recently ex-IBM mainframe software development executive) and I made a presentation to IBM CEO Akers in 1986 that had been prepared on the Mac and printed on the first Laserprinter. Does anyone remember that the combination of fonts and the fantastic 300 DPI output always screamed 'Steve Jobs' back then? To add insult to injury, my father-in-law made a point of telling Akers they were missing the boat .... (We didn't win the contract). While the personal computer we have all come to love-and-hate isn't disappearing soon enough, don't forget that Userland (and we with them) are pioneering a world where the idiosyncrasies of both Windows and the Mac are going to become increasingly insignificant. IMHO, that is a 'good thing'. Have fun and bear with me. |
