Walnut Creek picks city manager with local ties

[Contra Costa Times - Politics]

A man with East Bay roots who has led a Southern California community for more than a decade will be the city's next top administrator.

Michael W. Parness, of San Clemente, will become Walnut Creek's city manager June 24, the City Council announced Thursday. He beat 66 other applicants for the $175,000-a-year job.

"I'm excited about the opportunities available in Walnut Creek," Parness, 48, said. "I really look forward to getting up there, getting started, being a part of the community."
