How to drive traffic to your Radio weblog
- Create good, original content. Using the newsreader to post interesting headlines is nice, but to really drive traffic, write your own good, original content. Good original content gets links from other blogs, gets indexed by Google, and is much more interesting to read.
- Link to others who link to you. Look at your referrer log to see who is linking to you. As a courtesy, provide a link to them. Do a Google search to see what content Google has indexed from your blog. You'll be surprised who is linking to you.
- Tell your friends about your Radio blog. If you are providing good, original content, they might become regular readers.
- Choose an interesting topic. What things are you interested in? Chances are, others are interested in the same things you are. People are interested in reading about what you have to say about things that interest them. Kind of a full-circle thing, isn't it? (Just please, don't write about yourself. Unless you are someone really famous who has a bunch of fans who enjoy reading about what you ate for breakfast.)
- Try to stay on topic. You'll gain a reputation for having interesting content about a particular topic.
- Don't be afraid to go off-topic for a good story. Good content, no matter what the topic, drives traffic.
- Show your personality. People who get to know a little about you or enjoy your writing style are more likely to become regular readers.
- Make use of good headlines. A good headline captures attention. Newspapers learned this a long time ago.
- Put long copy in it's own story. Using the stories feature of Radio keeps your good, original content in an easy-to-find place. It also makes it much more convenient for people who use the newsreader. Long posts take up a lot of space on the news page. Instead, write good headlines and link to your stories.
- Post early, post often. The more often you post to your blog, the more often you will appear in the most recently changed blogs pages. The more often you appear, the more likely you will drive traffic to your blog.
