Let the Headhunting Begin!

I posted my resume on brassring, craigslist, and monster tonight. Others at CacheFlow have done so and gotten good results.

One advantage of being told I will be laid off is that I can ask my current boss to be a reference :-)

I've been corrupted

I'm on the win2k laptop at work today, and I keep trying to hit ALT-H to minimize apps :-)

SE's and CS and QA, Oh My!

Reading Steven's weblog has sparked my thinking about lots of good things.  Thanks!

One of them is the similarities of the roles of Sales Engineers, Customer Service techs, and Testers.

And the differences, of course.

Here's my first cut at the differences, looking at what makes people good at these jobs:

  • SE's have to be good at making it work, no matter what, even if it was not designed to do what the customer asked.
  • CS techs have to be good at knowing how it's broken, and how each defect might present to a customer.
  • Testers have to be good at finding out how it is broken, preferably in the ways that are important.

Later, I'll write something about the similarities.
