My New Computer

The new iMac came home today. If you want one and you're near a (brick and mortar) Apple Store, there's no shortage. Walked in, plopped down the credit card, walked out. Guess I don't need a mac version of Radio either -- it just talks to the licensed copy on the pc.

I'm so sick of actors, their arse licking, their self aggrandizement. Last night on Charlie Rose, Jennifer Connely on playing Alicia Nash in "A Beautiful Mind."

Smarty 2 released - the PHP compiling template engine. This release is a huge milestone for Smarty. Most notable new things are a plugin architecture, removal of PEAR dependency, and optimizations that drastically improve the performance (see benchmarks) of Smarty in most cases.

PHP Performance Tip: use the perl regexp functions, preg. They are many, many times faster then ereg. In one test, page rendering went from 0.5 seconds to 0.1.

The Kid is Alright

Katherine, now 2 ^1/2, is coming into her own. While getting her out of her car seat, the wife goes into a 30 second diatribe on how it's my fault I didn't bring Katherine's jacket and how much the she needs it for the 100 foot walk across the parking lot. Katherine, with no prodding from me, says "Calm down, Mommy". Couldn't have said it better myself ;-)
