New Evidence that Dark Energy Rules the Universe. Space.com Nov 12 2002 11:30AM ET [Moreover - moreover...] For anyone who thinks we have space all figured out, read this article. Much of the universe is composed of dark energy and dark matter, things we know very little about. It is very possible that these ideas are wrong also. Everything is in flux since scientists discovered that the universe is expanding at an accelerating rate.

Clic Linux for clustered environments. Groupe France [The Register] There is a place for open source projects. The above project creates a super computer using available cheap PCs. A quote near the end of the article is something the BigCo's should worry about.
Clearly, nobody is expecting that this particular Linux development is going to weave a magic wand and get Linux into more enterprises, because it isn't and it doesn't need to. Linux is doing that job for itself very nicely. This project enables people to tackle a problem they previously couldn't have tackled and, because it's open source, they can do it for free.
Linux is gaining ground. It will overtake other operating systems and the big loser will be proprietary systems. Lock-in is over.

Monster molecule techniques win Chemistry Nobel. New Scientist Oct 9 2002 7:36PM ET [Moreover - moreover...] Their work involved developing techniques that allow the discovery of the structures of DNA and proteins. Scientists are now using these techniques to rapidly determine the structures of thousands of molecules. Eventually we will know the shape of most things in the cell and can put all the tinker toys together. Amazing!

Life on Venus?. Scientists have reason to believe there may be life on Venus after all. [Beyond 2000 - Daily Science News] Certain specific microbes on this planet could certainly survive in the upper atmosphere of Venus. The question then becomes are they there? It's possible, but by no means proven.
