Top Venture Investors Forbes profiles the top venture investors.
"The engine of innovation still hums, despite a wretched year that saw several hundred startups go bust and upwards of 700,000 tech jobs disappear. Proof of that comes straight from the source: the members of our second annual Midas List, the elite 100 venture capitalists, angel investors, entrepreneurs, lawyers, bankers and recruiters who nurture and steer the tech economy." Hey Guys that was a fun night out! Thanks for checking in.
I enjoyed John's IntraWeb presentation. The product is still no WebHub but it sure has sex-appeal. It was strangly flattering to see how Chad and crew have creating something that would extend the power of WebHub's core to many more developers..
I think HREF ought to adapt tWebAction to adapt their js ui components into the much more ambitious WebHub framework. That would make a cool combination and enable people who are locked into desktop application building to deploy more quickly.
Anyway, I'm freshly reassured that there's plenty of meat in WebHub for HREF's much smaller crew to benefit from such a move.
Chad! I'm taking this thing and some of what it does as a personal compliment. Good work. Thank you! I'm really glad to have led the way here. Quoting Zack Urlocker '96: "its the pioneers that take the arrows in the back."
Meanwhile.. having said all that, here are the pictures from the after hours crew at Dempsey's. It was fun seeing you all and its been great to reconnect.

So what exactly is a Web Service? Internet.com tries to answer the question.
"So what exactly is a web service? Quite simply, it is a fundamentally new approach of developing a software application that can share information through Internet Protocol (IP). What makes all of this so revolutionary is that these newly created systems would be able to interact and exchange information regardless of the platform or environment." [ SJL's Radio Weblog] |

A Matter of Trust: "Blogging should be mandatory for every CEO. Screw insider trading disclosure, open up the walls that shrould Fortune's top 500 in secrecy. For never again will I trust the words of an analyst, accountant or spokeperson. if it doesn't come from the horses mouth, it just doesn't cut the mustard." [ Adam Curry: CurryDotCom] |

PARAMETERS, US Army War College Quarterly - Winter 2001-02: " A new century demands new ideas. The notion that stability is the fundamental strategic virtue is not going to be one of them. Ralph Peters retired from the US Army shortly after his promotion to lieutenant colonel so he could pursue a writing career. "

Trading Places, C.E.O. Does Mrs. Mom "..And what I learned is that the only thing worse is independence. "
indendence is worse than dependence. why? because you're alone. if you map it around a bit you get to the lone ranger thing, myths and dreams of family utopias. 50s idea one and all. not entirely, but close.
the word of the day is 'interdependence'.. then tomorrow we practice 'mutuality'.
psychopathy worse than orality leading to genitality. nice move mrs mom! |

i find nothing more challenging than working sense into 'california think' companies.
i've met one today, reeling from how the owners let 'processing' creep into the machine, how it marginalizes producers who loose track of job-requirements and everyday routines and procedures when interpersonal bliss becomes a goal for people at the top of the organization. there's a maskiness, a new-age political correctness, a fear.. and a sadness when you realize that instead of a business people were trying to build families. no matter what the value, if you're trying to build a family amongst your people then you're not building a business. not when you're 'processing' your vision away instead of letting go of hardworking stupid people. you get a family by using everybody the way they are best used. and you still go home to yours.
some ideas are just too big to run them just from the heart. you need a smart heart more often than not. that's just not in california think yet.

ParadoxCommunity.com - A Lurker's History of Paradox and the Paradox Community
A flash from the past!
i know or once knew everyone mentioned in DOS pages of this flashback.
funny. this is from the days when i split my practice between relational database application programming and design, business-flow-consulting and plain troubleshooting. first dbase 2 multiuser (heh!) then borland's paradox through version 4.5.. in nyc.. '84..'95
funny i should find stacy's page.. over xmas i found a bunch of copied pictures from the first http://www.thedbcommunity.com/pdox/history5.htm paradox conference which i should/shall scan and post as a gift back to this community. they were fun days.. with a pre windows innnocence.
anyone of you folks read this, alan/jim/kevin? drop me a note and lets have a beer! todd carry, one of the guys of the compuserve forums lives just a few miles away from here. |

i'm multilingual and these are just two of the domains i'm fluent in.
my experience spans the inner and outer realms, and i have worn many hats
servicing some 50 difference niches over the last 20 years.
this picture reminds me why i'm here: 'bricklayers' on both sides of the table, they need domain integrators like me. |

have a meeting with a group of consultants next week and it seems to me that i should go away for a day before or else my mind will go on blathering about the trends its wrapping itself around now that i'm all hibernated out... there's abuse potential here too and with the aggregators doing what they are doing i think i have to chat up some people in sebastopol to get the take of more seasoned minds on this (whatever you think it is) phenomena. its a bit 'blue' per wilber, imo. we'll see. </end spill... see if catg now posts :)> |

business as usual... the stock hawkers on wstreet continue to squeeze every penny they can out of investors. they make a huge media event out of amazons pro-forma profit which afaiu (as far as i understand) was a one-time profit from eurobonds.. without that speculation it would have lost $11 million and not have seen a 25% price-run friday.

the obvious is not what it seems. had a couple of fast days that put me a week behind myself. that's just fine. i need to pause to consider the amazing feedback my life changes have been attracting and rout out a few distractions. a few more? umm.. lets hold that thought till the morning drill. |
