A Mistake, Or Did They Do It to Us on Purpose?

The more I think about it, the more I think that it is unfortunate that Palm has decided not to implement "hacks" -- programs that extend the functions of the operating system -- in its newest version of the operating system, Palm OS 5.  This came to my attention today as I was puzzling out how to use MegaWiki to link DateBk5 to an outline in the Shadow outliner on my Palm.  Being able to link different documents and programs in the Palm operating system is an incredibly useful feature, but nobody seems to know whether Palm is going to provide this kind of linking or the system hooks that make it possible for a third party developer to implement it.  If Palm does not do one or both, it will be great loss to the power and flexibility of the OS.
