I just finished reading David Frum's The Right Man. It was very enjoyable read, as much for Frum's talent with language as for what he had to say. I found myself thinking about presidential speechwriter Will Bailey on The West Wing, when he asks Leo if there's anything he can do to help. After all, he feels responsible for the military action that had just begun following his conversation with the president. Frum has moments when he strikes me as having an inflated view of his influence on world events. However, I respect him a great deal and now have an improved sense of this White House as well as the tenuous life of a speechwriter.
My favorite part of each David Frum book, however, is the elegant dedications he writes to his wife. If I ever publish a book, I must ask permission to plagarize each and every one of them. The Right Man does not disappoint:
Finally, my wife, Danielle Crittenden Frum: Without her strength and endurance, this book would never have been written. Without her editorial pencil, it would not have been worth reading. Without her, nothing would be worth anything.
Bravo, David!
