What is Outwardly Normal?
Outwardly Normal is my main website, created in the summer of 2000, partly to help me become more familiar with web technology, but mostly to allow me to get my thoughts, doodles, and writings on the web.
In late 2001 I started a weblog to act as a container for my day-to-day mental noodling and as a way to let my friends know what's going on. It also comes in handy as a way to point to new stuff on the site.
What is Outwardly Normal 2?
In January 2002 I downloaded an evaluation copy of Radio Userland, a friendly yet powerful blogging/content management and scripting environment. I have found the Radio application a real inspiration in my knowledge management work.
What work do I do?
I'm an applications developer, focussing on web based applications and intranet content management/development.
My previous position was Applications Developer in the Knowledge Management Team of Linklaters - an major international law firm.
I was employed by Linklaters in a number of roles over the last 9 years.
I was the Linklaters representative on the Microsoft Word Legal Advisory Council, which met with Microsoft developers and product managers to try to improve the usefulness of MS Word for legal users.
Example Projects
KnowledgeNet 2
A redevelopment and merger of the Linklaters Intranet with the Linklaters & Alliance Intranet
Linklaters News Management System
A web based news management system allowing:
distributed ownership and authoring of news items
the automated creation of tailored news services to Linklaters staff including:
Linklaters Intranet
Linklaters have about 75,000 documents on their Intranet, which has around 100 sub-sites, owned by legal groups, business services functions, project groups and offices around the world.
I wrote the core Intranet system currently in use at Linklaters.
Interests
Photography to a semi-professional level. I have had photographs in two exhibitions so far this year, with more to come.
There's more, but you can ask me about that at interview.
Note: Opinions posted on Outwardly Normal or Outwardly Normal 2 are purely my own. I do not speak for any company or organisation - but you probably guessed that.
