Why would an american stay in Frankfurt am Main for so long? He likes it.

Before

What have I been doing before 2002?

27 11 2001 - 21:00 Well, we're coming up on one year of break62. Can you feel the electricity? Frankly neither can I, but let us press on nonetheless...

25 11 2001 - 18:30 So the memory arrived on the 24th and oh boy was I happy. Of course trying to install the standard SO-DIMMS on the laptop revealed that ACER, for reasons unknown, elected to use a modified size for the memory chip which they distribute with their laptop (TravelMate 722 for all you trainspotters), meaning that the standard chips I bought now sort of push out of the base of the machine...sort of a ghetto-tech thang. Oh well, at least it works and there is so much room for the kids to play...

23 11 2001 - 09:30 Nothing of any import today.

22 11 2001 - 09:30 Same slate gray morning as yesterday, but I'm feeling unnaturally chipper. Speaking of which, new memory for the laptop should arrive today. Double the churn room for W2K. Wouldn't it be nice to increase your dining room space or emotional capacity so easily? -- Uh, that's a rhetorical question, so stop answering...

21 11 2001 - 13:00 So things are getting more and more interesting. Much more wintry feel to frankfurt today. Pale slate gray and nippy.

20 11 2001 - 23:55 Another night of bruised reason.

18 11 2001 - 22:30 Well, didn't quite manage to turn the corner on my brain, but did find the street signs, good maps and so on...

18 11 2001 - 21:30 Eddie Izzard is one very funny man. He just let's that comedy rythym ball booooounce once big and then drop and booounce again, and then...wait...and then --- Grabs it again. Tangents seems to squirell off but then come careening back. Brilliant.

14 11 2001 - 21:00 So it's two days off of work to actually turn the corner on my own brain.

14 11 2001 - 09:00 Okay okay okay, Tequila is NOT the elixer of Light This I learned last night. Tequila is liquid electricity and I couldn't find a circuit breaker.

13 11 2001 - 13:00 (ish) Don't quite have my head around recursion/acquisition/traversal as an idea or... " Are you just talkin’ about this or were you just talkin’ about it?" " Yeah, we’re just speaking about it. " " Speaking about it as an idea. " " Yes. " " We’re not actually talking about it. " " No. " " Talking about it as a... " ...as a concept.

13 11 2001 - 09:00 Boy this is fun! Zope? What's that? Oh. Hey......great. It's a Beautiful Day. And I've got a Brand New Webdev Tool! ...and that is the sound of a new Zope-junkie!

01 11 2001 Well, that went fast didn't it? It is already November and much has happened in quarter the third of 2001. But I'm getting this strange feeling of deja vu. Could it be that something like this has happened before?

01 07 2001 Well, that went fast didn't it? It is already July and much has happened in quarter the second of 2001. I may just tell you about it sometime soon.

01 04 2001 Jerome died a few weeks ago. I was expected to say something at the service, but no words came. The best I could do was lay my hand on his casket and wish him well.

19 12 2000 The lights in the sky are stars.

15 12 2000 Got some bad news today. My father has cancer. He has been hospitalized and it looks like he won't make it past Christmas.

12 12 2000 Spent most of the day writing comments to a project initiation worksheet by one of our New York VP's. It appears that a little less than some thought was put into it.

11 12 2000 Spent most of the day writing an essay about copyright. The amount of greed and ignorance to be found in the world of information provision is still quite staggering. Most of our current situation can be summed up thus: If I'm the first person to take a picture of a train crash, do I own the train crash?

08 12 2000 I managed to get a proper set of candles for my advent's wreath yesterday. That is three purple and one rose colored. It feels nice to participate in a tradition.

07 12 2000 The Europeans are meeting in Nice today. I wonder just what they may be planning. I wonder if they know what they are planning...

06 12 2000 Today is "Nikalous" day in Germany, which means the distribution of little chocolate Kris Kringles to everyone by everyone. Mmmmm. Participated in a conference call which was more like an audio reenactment of scenes from Blue Velvet. You would figure that people who work for a giant corporation would know how to use a headset. Anybody who has seen a Madonna video should know how to use a head set for crying out loud.

05 12 2000 Very nothing sort of day at work today. Subtly given the brush by a subtly overweight golfer. Meandered around our intranet looking for reasons to make my areas that much better. Had potentially lethal burger and fries for lunch. What's the deal with web-cams? Are frat videos something we need to be able to view on all four corners of the globe? I think not. Don't get me wrong. Free-dumb of expression is important for everyone and the inet is the perfect platform, but, I'm mean, geez, is this what the species is all about? "Hey, watch me and three of my friends drink beer!" Worse still, "This is me at work, great huh!" Yeah, great, only down side is that I have to wait 30 seconds between updates of you waiting 30 seconds between updates of the frat boys web-cam. Can't this whole broadband issue just get resolved! We definitely need more capacity...

04 12 2000 Our JOHO friend implied in one of his latest meanderings that blogs (web-logs, for those of you who actually have lives apart from the net) are not very interesting anymore because, well, they are so interesting that you can't find the time to read all of them. Well, I'm just getting started here, so, uh, tough! Speaking of latest offerings "Jersey Yo!", from Redman's Doc's da Name, uh, well, really jams, and mentions my place of birth which makes it special, don't you think? Fire up your napster and, uh, checkit!

03 12 2000 First Advent Sunday was simply nice. Relaxing day doing not much in particular. Last night went very well by the way. Dinner was tasty, the film was funny (Holy Man) and the conversation was of superior quality. As it should be.

02 12 2000 After gathering up last nights laundry explosion the day was spent doing other less interesting (is that possible?) domestic chores, reading the papers, and right now prepping a dinner for me and a friend. As she will be here in a few minutes and I have to tend to my zucchini and fusilli, must sign off for now.

01 12 2000 Holiday preparation continues with a candle and card shopping spree today in the city. In the morning I walked the Bornheim shopping-pilgrim path. Searching for nice candles, those little plates that go under them and a set of tasteful xmas cards for friends and family, just to get in the spirit of things. Combed the small gift shops of which there are plenty in Bornheim, maybe too many. I suppose a lot of people, mostly women it seems, have this dream of opening up a shop that sells essentially useless knick-knacks that smell nice. Due to the recent boom in the world economy a lot of people have made their dream come true. The proprietor of one of these boutiques asked me what I as smiling at as I paid for some stuff. I was just feeling, well, good and beamed at her, I suppose, because I do that sometimes. It's a bad sign when feeling really good is some how questionable. It took all day to find the one thing I was really searching for. Those little fiddly plates that go under the big stumpy candles. They were, as it must always be, in the last place I looked. Evening spent in a laundry frenzy with most of my socks and t-shirts distributed evenly about the hot spots in the apartment, i.e. draped over the radiators.

30 11 2000 Please lets all use this notation for dates--everywhere, forever. It will make things a whole heck of a lot easier for everyone. Day, month, year just makes sense, doesn't it? Just nod your head, thank you.
