Life at BIB (Big Investment Bank)

I've been working for a big investment bank for 5+ years, quite a long time by today's fvck 'em and forget 'em standards I suppose.

When I started with them, 1995, it seemed inconceivable to me that they were only just then moving to MS products.  What they were moving away from some was central servers with dumb terminals running a suite of productivity applications. So they made the big jump to NT and decentralization.

Now they're trying to figure out, uh, what is it, oh yeah, "the web".  Don't get me wrong. There are a lot of savvy techies but in the end they must serve the culture that supports them, and this culture has shown great resistance to the natural extension of decentralization that the web implies.
