Everyone his own Big Brother

DIDW points to a "useful scare" piece from Declan McCullagh warning that short-term effects of TIA project are nothing compared to "what could Poindexter and the Bush administration devise in five or 10 years, if they had the money, the power and the will". Declan ends up with obligatory "fight this".

Yeah, you say, scary stuff. But before becoming rightfully angry, consider other viewpoint. Soon, we probably will not need government to snoop on us. It is likely that pretty soon location tracking, tagging and surveillance technology will make it into consumer products and then as Bill Thompson illustrates:

"We will soon be surrounded by millions of picture phones, all with internet connectivity and the ability to send photos via e-mail, or upload them to websites.  ... The combination of easy web publishing with picture phones could mark a decisive shift in our approach to personal privacy, a shift that we may end up regretting."

It seems that the option to point your finger in one direction and cry Big Brother will soon make no sense.
