From the department of high numbers

When looking for the original press release beyond this article (lnk through Doug Kaye), at IDC home page I found original market size figures for web services but also for security. Even though I know that the resulting comparison is probably misleading (like total apples v total pears market size), I could not resist putting the total figures next to each other.

Security: "The total IT security market, including software, hardware, and services, is expected to increase to $45 billion in revenues by 2006, compared to revenues of $17 billion in 2001."

Web Services: "Web services will drive a total software, services, and hardware opportunity in the U.S. of $21 billion by 2007 and will peak at $27 billion in 2010."
