Book - Feynman's Rainbow by Leonard Mlodinow

As a longtime Feynman freak, the title made this an easy buy and fun read. It's a semi-autobiographical account by Leonard Mlodinow of his time post doctorate at Caltech and his interactions there with Feynman, Gell-Mann, Wolfram and others. Overall, very entertaining story with minimal physics and lots on the characters involved. I enjoyed it and would recommend to any Feynman or general physics reader. Genius by Gleick is better on pure Feynman but still in the entertaining vs. pure physics category.

Book - Dr. Strangelove's Game by Paul Strathern

This is a great, entertaining read on economics. I was initially drawn to it for it's apparent coverage of John von Neumann's work, but that part is weak and there are better books both by and about von Neumann out there. Even so, this book is interesting enough with a broad overview of the history and core thoughts on economics. After reading this, I'd recommend you pick-up Butterfly Economics by Paul Ormerod as a nice follow-up and slightly deeper read.

Book - Ablaze by Piers Paul Read

Ablaze, The Story of Chernobyl by Piers Paul Read via Seeker and Warburg.

This book is an interesting review of the accident at Chernobyl. It's fairly well written and there are some pretty graphic B&W pictures to give you a better idea of the scope of this event. The overall cause simply appears to be a given assumption that these RBMK reactors were completely "safe". Even after the explosion, many there could not believe the accident occurred in the core of the reactor. Interesting topic and some good lessons to be learned on engineering, design, responsibility, authority and ethics.

Welcome to my weblog. For several months I've been reading some of the more popular weblog's and decided to create one to learn. It's an interesting way to communicate and can't help but wonder how the web would have evolved if weblogs where initiated along with Mosaic and other early browsers. Radio 8.0 is an incredibly easy tool to initiate anyone into weblog creation and I recommend it after reviewing a number of tools and hand-coded solutions during this period.
