OK, I think I found the problem. radio.upstream.getUpstreamText overrides the flRender directive. I'm not sure if this has always been true; I think not, but cannot remember. I don't see anything in the verb's change notes. On the other hand, Radio's help clearly states that this directive, when set to false, will prevent a file from being rendered - and upstreamed as is.

I guess I didn't do it right. I'll need to dig a little bit on this one. I thought including the "#flRender false" directive would prevent Radio from rendering the file as HTML. Wrong! I don't have time to walk through the rendering engine at the moment. Maybe tomorrow.

Parakaleo in OPML! Hopefully I did it right this time. Earlier, at work, I forgot to tell Radio to not render the outline, but to simply upstream it. I think I got it right this time.

I really want to subscribe to RSS feeds from friends with Xangas, but the RSS coming out of Xanga is invalid. They specify the RSS 0.91 format, but don't include some required elements. Namely, description and language tags are missing from the channel section. I found somebody hosting a PHP-based tool that claims to fix up Xanga feeds, but it still doesn't produce the required language tag. I wish Xanga would fix this, but I haven't been able to find a way to contact them. Maybe I'll take a crack at writing my own conversion tool.

iPodder.I've been a little unhappy with iPodder - not the idea, but the Python-based tool itself. It just doesn't seem to work very well. It frequently doesn't run at the scheduled times. It sometimes does run, but doesn't bother updating playlists in iTunes. For the moment I'm giving Doppler a try. In the meantime, I've decided to learn Python programming. Maybe I can make iPodder work the way I'd like it to. For example, I'd love for it to clear (and delete) podcasts I've already listened to.

[bin Laden] adds: "Your security does not lie in the hands of Kerry, Bush, or al-Qaeda. Your security is in your own hands. Each and every state that does not tamper with our security will have automatically assured its own security." [BBC Article on  Osama bin Laden's recent videotape] This is thuggery. How is bin Laden's threat any different from a street thug who promises you won't get hurt as long as you pay him protection money? Further, when bin Laden says "our security" whom is he representing? He certainly is not a head of state, or representative of any state. By what authority does he make such demands?

Crossway books is offering a web service for obtaining text from the English Standard Version. I hope they expand this to support other translations as well.

This is hardly a scoop, I guess. Some theatres are showing The Two Towers preview following showings of The Fellowship of the Ring. Apparently not all theatres have received the trailer yet. It just started showing up yesterday. I saw it at Lowes Theatres at Streets of Woodfield yesterday. I called the AMC 30 in South Barrington - they are showing it also. Some theatres are not yet showing it (because they have not yet received it). Call first.

Peter Jackson says this is not a trailer, but a preview for fans. More info at LOTR.
