h4ck3rc4st #003: Synchronization, Desktops, and Web 2.0 Listening to the Gillmor Gang got me thinking about synchronization: having your data be everywhere, in real time, and all transparent to the user. No file server, no "oh, that's on the other machine...", no hassle. I talk about what I think is the Achilles' heel of the Web OS (ie: connectivity), but what I like about it (access to your stuff anywhere), and how I think operating system vendors (Apple in particular) could leverage this, adding value to the desktop through the remote access provided by the web (and also make synchronization between devices transparent) Categories: h4ck34c4st |

h4ck3rc4st #002: Talking about ADHOC 2005 h4ck3rc4st #2 is finally here! With the magic of (the registered) WireTap Pro and iChat AV I did a podcast with Mike Zornek, fellow ADHOCer, and designer of the (new! shiny!) ADHOC website. We talk about ADHOC, the speakers, the sessions, the website, and the general wackiness that pervades the 72 hour caffeine fest. Now seems like a good time to point to Wolf's entry: The Conference At The End Of The Universe: ADHOC 2005 So have a listen already! ;-) Categories: h4ck34c4st |

SkypeIn for (short) podcasts? So, does Skype-In Voice Mail seem like an ideal match for pod-casts on the road to anybody else, or is it just me? Except for the 10 minute limit that is. And the fact that there's no easy way to export to MP3. On the Mac we have WireTap Pro and Audio Hijack Pro, so we can record audio-out pretty easily... but not the point. h4ck3rc4st #001: Talking about Apple's x86 Transition My first "h4ck3rc4st": an occasional foray into the world of Do It Yourself Radio (publishing) Mark (a fellow nerd from high school) and I talk about Apple's transition to x86 and other WWDC announcements (and get off track, at the end, and start yacking about World Of Warcraft and Star Wars Ep3) All recorded using the miracles of Skype - which really did Just Work - and Wiretap Pro. I used the unregistered version of Wiretap to record this, so every 20 seconds or so you'll hear "This was recorded using an unregistered version of Wiretap Pro.". This is annoying, I'll admit, I hope you'll find the content interesting enough to "hear around" that.
Needless to say I now have a registered copy of WireTap Pro, so future h4ck3rc4sts will free of the Helpful Lady's Voice. Hopefully "all" the equipment and software I've had to buy will keep me on the straight and narrow podcaster's path (and while $50 or so isn't really all that much money... I really wasn't planning on spending it all there Categories: h4ck34c4st |
