I've started playing with Linux. I have installed Mandrake Linux 8.1 on a Dell Optiplex GXm that has a 300 Mhz Pentium II processor, 128 MB of RAM, and two 6 GB hard disks, and the computer's name is gandalf. Right now hda is partitioned in /, swap and /home. hdb only has a swap partion and two blocks of free space.
I've been able to browse network shares, but not really access files nor mount those shares.
For some reason right now the Internet connection does not automatically start. Gandalf is on a LAN, which shares a cable modem connection. He has a 3Com network card configured with a static IP address. I can manually start the connection but when I reboot the computer the Internet connection is not started.
