I believe I need to start using Linux more. I do have Linux installed on one PC here in the Cave, but since that is not my main PC, nor will it be since is under-powered, I'm beginning to form a plan in my mind.

Barney (my Dell Inspiron notebook) has pretty much become my main Windows PC, running Windows XP Professional. Fred is my main desktop and he usually runs Windows 2000 Professional. In reality there are two main things that I use Fred for. One is as my main email machine, running Outlook 2000. The other is for playing music. I can do the email on Barney, and I am sure I can play under Linux on Fred provided I can get the audio working under Fred.

Fred only has a 20 GB hard drive, so I am formulating a plan that consists of replacing that hard drive with something larger and then installing Red Hat Linux as the main operating system. By replacing the hard drive I can keep the 20 GB drive exactly as it is and swap it in if things go really bad.

First I need to move all my data off Fred and on to other PCs on my network. Next I need to get Outlook set up on Barney so that it is my main machine, which means recreating my folder structure and figuring out how to move my filters from Fred to Barney. Then get the larger hard drive and Red Hat Linux, and then install the tool and be prepared to pull out my hair.
