This is more a reminder for tomorrow than anything. I have found that Radio only creates shortcuts for stories that are created using the Radio desktop interface. That means that creating stories from outlines within Radio itself will not result in the creation of a shortcut. The shortcut itself is created by radio.file.newStoryFile - a script invoked when a new story is being saved to disk.

I really like shortcuts, but I also really like creating my stories using the outline editor within Radio. I seem to have the following options:

  • Manually create my story shortcuts
  • Create new stories from the Radio Desktop, then edit using the outliner
  • Devise something that launches the Radio outliner for a new story
There are some comments in Radio's code suggesting Userland has contemplated option #3. I tried option #2 for a while, but did not care for it because Radio creates a date-driven hierarchy of folders for storing stories in. It gets difficult to find old stories after a while.

I am now the top authority on me, according to Google. Actually, I appear to be the top authority on people with whom I share my name. I am slightly embarassed that an old opinion piece on K-Logs is also highly ranked. I fear somebody is linking to it. I need to revise that and make it clear that it is just an opinion, one expressed after receiving some pushback on my weblogging efforts at work.

[From Scripting News] Personal note. On this day, 47 years ago, I was born.

Happy Birthday Dave Winer. I have never met you, we have never really conversed (though you have sent me a couple of nice notes), and yet I have profited from our relationship. I have developed a deep and abiding respect for you, your work, and your opinions. I am truly thankful for your presence in this place.
