Alan Keyes has written an excellent commentary on the conflict involving Judge Roy Moore and the state of Alabama's right to display the Ten Commandments. “Since there can be no federal law on the subject, there appears to be no lawful basis for any element of the federal government – including the courts – to act in this area”. While I did not like the court order from Federal Judge Thompson, I felt bound to obey it as a law-abiding citizen. I had not considered the possibility that the court order might itself be illegal. If Keyes is right, and he has articulated his position extremely well, then I am duty-bound as a citizen to disobey Thompson's court order. That's pretty much exactly the conclusion Martin Luther King came to when he drew the distinction between moral laws and unjust laws from a Birmingham jail cell. 10:06:26 AM |
