Ben Goodger responds to the recent community criticism of Firefox's Live Bookmarks. Overall I agree with what he has to say. But I still think that if Firefox is going to display an orange RSS button they need to do more than just support Live Bookmark subscription.

This is the first and possibly only place most web users will see a reference to RSS, if all they think it can do is display news headlines in the Live Bookmark format they are missing out bigtime. RSS can do so much more than that, just take a look at what "Adam Curry" is doing at ipodder.org. I'm not saying that Firefox itself needs to support all the advanced features of RSS but it does need to provide hooks into more featureful aggregators.

Since Firefox is Open Source software and the beauty of Open Source is that anyone with the desire to do so may extend the product, I hereby volunteer to write a Firefox Extension to extend the RSS button beyond live bookmarks.

If anyone has any pointers on how to proceed drop me and email or leave a comment on this site.
