If you're at work, you'll want to download the zipped version of the trailer for The Two Towers (thanks to /. for the link). That way, you can watch it over and over and over again without impacting bandwidth. Wowsers. I can't wait. Hopefully Carleton will be able to swing another advanced preview this year. 4:51:41 PM |

I am so absolutely unbelievably sick of reading stories about children getting killed because stupid (or absent-minded or careless or busy or distracted or whatever) adults leave them alone in a car in the summer. It happens far too often. According to SAFE KIDS, "at least 150 children who have died since 1996 in all regions on the country as the result of being left or trapped in a hot, parked vehicle." I get angry every time I try to imagine what it must be like to die from hyperthermia. Let me clarify: heat stroke is one thing, and there are all sorts of accompanying symptoms that could lead to death. But I'm an adult. When I was working in the yard this weekend, I probably downed 8 oz of water, juice, or Gatorade every 20 minutes or so. I also went inside to cool off after an hour, or played with the girls in the pool. So then I
take what I remember about yesterday's unbearable heat, add twenty or thirty
degrees for being inside a parked car, then figure I'd also be restrained by
some strange device, so any hope for escape I might have is already dashed
because I can't get out of my seat. Think about it. Talk about a cruel and
unusual way to die. |
