In the last post I admitted that I did not have an iPod. I have remedied that with the object shown here. It the randomizing type, and "only" cost a hundred bucks. Plus, it's shown (near) actual size!

Right now it's playing Alice by Tom Waits (followed by Ice Cube's Keep It Gangster.)

How's that for random?

I've got to say that this device, as cool as it is, has a serious design flaw. It uses three LED annunciators: red, green and amber. These colors, when seen in the absence of the others as reference are indistinguishable to dichromats. I use a piece of red plastic to view them through to tell what color they are showing. Eventually I will learn how bright each color is.

Sexy Magic's Julie has tagged me to answer a bunch of question about music:

1) Total Size of Music Files on My Computer: Five and a half gigs, 5,476,110,173 bytes. 1424 songs lasting 3.7 days (and of course they are all legal copies!)

2) The Last CD I Bought Was: The last real (ie plastic round thing) was the De Lovely soundtrack. The last CD I dl'ed was The Gorillaz' Demon Days which I got yesterday.

3) Song Playing Right Now on my iFruit: I'm pretty sure 'iFriut' is generic slang for iPod. I don't have one, but then I don't have a cell phone either. Ok, call me a Luddite. I do however, have a 6 CD player in my car, and I mix my own CDs. So they are

1: Gorillaz Mix (mostly Demon Days and G-Sides)
2: Enigma's MCMX ... whatever it's called
3: Sampled Music Mix ("illegal" music)
4: Smashmouth (I play 'Pacific Coast Party' whenever I reach the PCH)
5: Smashing Pumkins' entire 5 disc Bullets with Butterfly Wings set condensed onto one CD
6: Björk's Greatest Hits.
The last song playing was the first one on #6.

4) Top five albums:

1: Pink Floyd's Meddle
2: Beethovan's 9th Symphony feat. Leonard Bernstein & the NY Philharmonic
3: Dr. Dre's 2001
4: Frank Black's Teenager of the Year
5: Leonard Cohen's I'm Your Man

5) Five Songs That Mean a Lot to Me (1 per artist):

1: Willie Nelson's Crazy
2: Marshall Mathers's (I'm gonna) Kill You
3: Outkast's Liberation
4: Vince Guaraldi's Linus and Lucy
5: Robert Preston & the cast from The Music Man - Trouble in River City
That was kind of arbitrary, ask me another day and I'll give you 5 different songs.

6) Recent discoveries?

1: William Shatner's Has Been
2: The Streets A Grand Don't Come for Free
3: The Gorillaz Demon Days
4: Diana Krall's Love Scenes

7) Who's next? (1972, The Who) I'll point to the following bloggers at random from the list at the bottom of the page:

1: Andy Curtis
2: Julius Welby
3: Marie Carnes
4: kara
No pressure now.

Some dude on the Digital Photography Review Nikon forum had a problem with this blog. Well - he doesn't even consider it a blog, he said because he didn't like my Anne Bancroft eulogy (sez he wanted a comprehensive bio) but I'll bet it's because the font's too big. He also thought all you with links at the bottom are lame. Doesn't he realize that Dave Winer is bigger than John Lennon and Jesus? (Me too, but I swear I'm starting that diet on Monday!)

So Jules this is just for you...

You wouldn't believe the traffic today - I mean c'mon people LEARN HOW TO DRIVE!!! Speaking of rants, there is theis chick at work who just gets my goat. No special reason, I just need to vent - I mean, like, ya know?

Not only that, but well, I finally saw Sideways and it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I can best describe it as a 'guy flick' done 'chick flick' style. You know, a couple of guys hanging out, getting in trouble, but there for each other when they needed it. Ok, so it stunk. The sex scene with Sandra Oh was worth the ticket price, K?

I just wrote a poem:
There once was a poster named Jules
Who thought that we were all fools.
        He doesn't show pix,
But I'll bet he licks dix.
Damn, now he thinks we're all ghouls.

Anything else? Oh yeah I talked with my friends and bought a new pair of water socks and then I got like, TWELVE pairs of regular socks. Not just any socks, but those kind that just barely cover your ankle. Anything taller and it pushes the hairs on my calves down, which hurts later, when I take them off.

I thik I'll do a poll. How many of you guys take off your socks and put them right into the dirty clothes, vs just dropping them where you took them off. The theory being, they smell bad and may just be slimy. I'd rather let 'em stiffen up for a while before touching them with my hands. I gotta pick my ...

You get the idea. There Jules, is that better? Am I a real blogger now? Oh golly, I hope you think so... (dreamy smile followed by sarcastic sneer and eye roll.)

Cause the thing about a blog, Jules, is that I get to slam yer ass here on the front page, but all you can do is leave me a pithy comment. Go ahead, make my day.

Dave Winer echos a post by Michael Gartenberg: "If Watergate were happening today..."

Yeah. Like that could happen. The lessons of Watergate were well learned. The one side no longer treats 'executive privlige' as a hands off condition, and the other side no longer makes tape recordings. Gartenberg presumes that covert communications would be done via email. Oh, if only they would.
