p e r i o d i c a table of the elements Sirius the dog star, is a close type A1 star and it's the brightest star in the northern hemisphere's sky. It's the bright star in the left half of the picture below. You can find it easily if you recognize the constellation Orion in the sky. Sirius, in Canus Major, follows Orion just to the East.
