Web - Usability - Humor
[11:13:08 AM]
Tuesday I went to a sort of social/techno gathering with some folks, many of whom have made significant contributions to web standards and the web in general. It was a remarkably pleasant bunch of people, and a remarkable collection of skills and talents.
Tantek Çelik mentioned some of the topics we covered in his weblog.
I'm somewhat of a standards agnostic, but I appreciate that it's interesting and useful to discover what all can be done with the technology that we're amassing.
The most embarrassing thing is to have people who know a thing or two about website design maybe look at this site. Ouch. This site (today) is *not* an example of web design, it is an *anti-example*. I started with one of Radio's themes, stripped out most of the junk markup, added a max-width for the column of text, and didn't even bother to figure out how to change the template for "stories". Since I've mostly only use this site for rants, usability and grace haven't seemed important concerns.
I might just have to play around a little with the html, just to show I can spit with the crowd. I'm also feeling inspired to write out a lot of my questions about and tips for CSS. I've been slacking on that lately.
Anyway, thanks especially to Todd and Martina for hosting us, and to Tantek and Doug for the (broadcast) invitation.
