LucasFilms to go all-silent Palo Alto (Licentious) -- I saw George Lucas last Wednesday at the Stanford Theater. The theater was sold out for a silent movie. It's one of those old-fashioned HUGE theaters, and it was sold out for a silent movie. I got the last popcorn before they ran out, and then I got the last seat in the house, next to George. After the first show of the double feature, George took out a slide rule, and calculated with gusto. (Watch the elbows when you use that thing, George.) After I took an elbow in the ribs a second time, I asked him what he was so excited about. "None of the actors have speaking roles." I guess the rate for actors with no lines is a lot lower than the usual rates for stars. I don't know if he'll stick to it, but George *swore* his next film would be silent. |
