OS X 10.2 Rebate Coupon still available? It just might be!
- This Mac Net Journal article mentions that a certain retailer has pulled the link to a rebate coupon which offers a fifty dollar rebate on OS X 10.2. The link to the coupon 'might' still be around (at least it was at the time this was posted). The power of Google never ceases to amaze me! :-)

Portraits & Prints v1.2
- Portraits & Prints is a photo layout and printing application for OS X. Version changes include greatly enhanced AppleScript support.
The AppleScript dictionary has been expanded and scripts can now access almost every property associated with an individual photo entry in a catalog. Also, photos may now be exported under script control.
There's also a new "Scripts" menu. Scripts specific to Portraits & Prints can now be installed and will appear automatically under the "Scripts" menu. Choosing a script's name from this menu will execute it. Six "starter" scripts are now included to give you an idea of how to script Portraits & Prints. The Portraits & Prints Scripter's Kit (available late August, 2002) provides detailed information and examples on how to expand Portraits & Prints' capabilities via AppleScript.

Missing Link
- Missing Link is a set of helper applications that allows almost any web browser to open, launch, or run local files, folders, applications, scripts and other file types from links on a simple HTML Page. When clicked, linked items behave just as if they had been double-clicked in the Finder. Missing Link is made with AppleScript. It requires no osax but the Standard Additions (included with every Mac). It takes up about 250 K disk space. The individual helper apps run smoothly with about 1 MB RAM apiece.

Jaguar brings folder actions and AppleScript Studio 1.2
- Among the many features included in Jaguar (Mac OS X v10.2) is AppleScript integrated with the Finder for folder actions, and AppleScript Studio 1.2. C'mon! There's got to be more than that for hard core scripters! I wish Apple would quit wasting resources on chat programs and turn the AppleScript team loose!

Macworld Expo: SQL Databases and Mac OS X
- Mark Lilback, President of Runtime Labs, will moderate a "Birds of a Feather" meeting at Macworld Expo which will cover the various SQL servers, client libraries, and SQL tools available for Mac OS X (including ODBC). Topics will include differences between the various free and commercial SQL databases, serving PHP and Perl Web pages that interact with SQL databases, and automating workflow with AppleScript and SQL. The meeting will be held on Wed, July 17, from 6-7:30 PM. I apologize for not posting this sooner but I've just discovered it myself. Now get goin' so you don't miss it!!

NetNewsWire Lite public beta
- NetNewsWire is an easy-to-use news reader for web sites. It reads RSS files and uses a familiar three-paned interface - like that of Outlook Express or Mailsmith - to display websites and their news.
