- The XML Tools scripting addition from Late Night Software allows AppleScript to parse and generate XML data. Changes: Added a new separate namespace URIs parameter to the parse XML command. Performance has been improved by roughly 20% on OS X 10.2 systems.

The article goes on to say "Our peak rate of 270,147,024 kkeys/sec is equivalent to 32,504 800MHz Apple PowerBook G4 laptops or 45,998 2GHz AMD Athlon XP machines or (to use some rc5-56 numbers) nearly a half million Pentium Pro 200s. " While it wasn't a Mac that found the key, if I was going into the encryption cracking business today on a limited budget, based on these numbers, I'd choose a Mac G4.

Macworld Review: Adobe FrameMaker 7.0
- Bill Briggs, a well known AppleScript guru, reviews Adobe's FrameMaker 7.0. The review doesn't mention FrameMaker's AppleScript support but, when asked about it, he replied that the object model is complete, and it's quite well done. He went on to say that FrameMaker is a powerful tool, and with the script support it has, one could do some awesome things with it.

- BootImage Pal is an application for making boot image design easier. It can convert a tiff image into the .act and .raw files needed by Ryan Schmidt's Startup Syringe application to change the boot image in Mac OS X version 10.2 (Jaguar). The plan is to make the app not only scriptable but attachable, so that you can add your own commands to various parts of the user interface.In related news, NetNewsWire Lite has moved into the final candidate phase of development. I expect NetNewsWire Pro to become the tool of choice, not only for those who are looking for news but also for those who provide it. I've already reserved dock space for it.
Exactly which parts is yet to be determined, but it seems likely that there would be a Scripts menu, and perhaps a way to attach commands to contextual menus and possibly the toolbar.

Reflecting - Remembering - Renewing
On September 11, 2001, I was working 30 miles away from my Ohio home when I first heard of the mayhem in New York City. The first tower had been struck and 'terrorism' was still something that happened only in other parts of the world. When the second tower was struck, I rushed back to my home town, closer to home, my comfort zone, feeling somewhat confused and sickened, finally realizing, along with everyone else, that something terrible was happening.
I plan to spend this day, September 11, 2002, reflecting on what happened one year ago, on what has happened since that day, and on what it has cost all of us in terms of freedom and security. I'll also remember those who lost their lives, and those who sprung into action to help. And the military, and the government, and...
Wow! It's all coming back to me now. September 11, 2001, and the weeks that followed, triggered many different emotions, probably more emotions than any single incident in my life. I wanted to cradle one group of strangers in my arms, to offer comfort, while wanting to lash out at, and kill, another group of strangers, unleashing the hate that had suddenly sprung up inside of me. It's truly a time to remember, for many reasons, and a time to renew feelings of a time gone by, what I perceive as a better time, or more affectionately, the good ol' days. It's also time to live tomorrow's good ol' days. If you haven't started, I hope you'll join me.

Note: iCal requires Jaguar and publishing calendars on the Internet requires a .Mac membership or a WebDAV server. I'll post the AppleScript dictionary later, after I have a chance to format it. Update: As promised, the dictionary is now available.
