Dave's Whims
Anything that grabs my eye (ouch!) should find it's way here. Weird weblinks, odd rambles, wishes, hopes, fantasies, and fears are all liable to end up on these pages. Updated every whim that moves me to do so. Current conditions call for erratic posting interspersed with lameness...

Dave's Whims is now my home page in IE. I have OS X set up to load Radio Userland automaticly on boot. Hopefully that'll mean more whims get posted. I want to get in the habit of putting things here.

I have a script masquerading as an application that I call boot delay. I hacked it together in Real Basic so I can have PhotoStickies launch at startup. I've found that it's prone to crashing on my system if I try to load it immediately on boot. All the application does is give me a dialogue box asking if I want to launch PhotoStickies. I wait 'till everything else has loaded and then click to launch it. I think this is going to mutate into a launch pane of some sort. I'm getting kind of complex about what I want to launch at startup. Sometimes I want all sorts of bells & whistles to do their things, and sometimes I just want certain ones. Being the lazy bastard that I am I want to have to do as little as possible to get them going. I think a dialogue with a few choices at startup would do that just fine. Considering how remedial my programming is, this is going to end up being a lot of work to save some work.

Well, it looks like it's time for some sleep.

Damn... The following shows how having a non-standard color setup on my pages can bite me in the ass.

I enjoy reading Doc's thoughts. Unfortunately he spcifies black text and so I only get to see the links unless I manually highlight everything when I'm reading his stuff in Radio's news section. I can fix this when posting it, but it's a small pain.

Time to do some thinking about this color scheme thing.

Cringely says he's using a passive repeater (two antennas, one receiving, the other transmitting, connected together) to bank a Wi-Fi signal over a mountaintop.
Rob Flickinger, who knows something about the subject, doesn't buy it.
I don't either. We're dealing with waay too much attenuation between points A and C, not to mention the problems of passive signal repeating at point B.
But... I'd like to know more.

OK, I've gone from snow to the vast blackness of space.

I've always been a fan of light text on a dark backgraound, and this is the only theme available that does that without tweaking. I should probably learn theme tweaking as I'd like to whip up something more, uh, me...
