...but here is a step towards the cure. This is a DIY project, not downloadable softwarez, but the instructions are on the page, and I must say it is impressive in a thoroughly alpha-geek sort of way. The Worldview Desktop is a collection of live webcams, weather sites, and real time data feeds from around the world that you set as your MS Windows active desktop. (It can be made to work with other OSs also) As it says on the site: it's a "poor man's official james bond megalomaniacal super-villain world domination mission control video wall". BWA HA HA!
