Signs of the Apocalypse: Pat Boone Goes Heavy Metal

Pat Boone and a big band doing metal covers? Well the arrangements work and Boone turns a bunch of metal classics into enjoyable romps. Much more than just a novelty album, this CD shows just how versatile Boone is as an artist. He takes these tracks and makes them his own, ranging from Judas Priest to Alice Cooper (the title track).   [blogcritics]

Sound Sculpting with Jambient

This is Jambient - mixing software for spontaneous improvisation. It's a tool for DJs, electroacoustic musicians, and for anyone who wants to create music on their PC.  Jambient uses a joystick to sculpt sound in 16 channels simultaneously. The result is unlike any other computer based musical instrument - a way to create sounds live - from the DJ booth, onstage or at your workstation - that would be difficult or impossible to create in a studio.  Jambient is shareware. It will time out 30 days after you first use it. There is a free version with less functionality. http://www.jambient.com/intro.html

Geek Chic: Graphing Google

Graphing Google Neat little Java applet which will create pretty graphs of inter-site relationships based on Google's 'Related Sites' feature. Check out MetaFilter,BBC News and Slashdot for good examples of how deep the inter linking can go. Try graphing your own site! Neat. (Requires Java)    [metafilter]

ART ALERT: The Gods of Japan

"This photo library and dictionary is a labor of love. After moving to Kamakura in 1993, I became intrigued by the many deities and faces of Buddhism and Shintoism. There are over 650 photos in this library."   [metafilter]

Geek Chic: Moneydance 2003

Moneydance is a cross-platform finance manager for Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows. It appears to do everything the big boys (Quicken and Money) do: online banking, scheduled payments, budgeting, financial reports, portfolio management/analysis. Additionally it features an open API which will allow third parties to develop new services for it. Moneydance uses industry standard technologies such as OFX, QIF, SSL/TLS, Java, and XML to ensure compatibility with other software and services. I'm going to check it out. There are screenshots and a downloadable free trial available on their website.

The Subway Page

Links to World Subway and Other Transportation Information Resources. This could come in handy if you need to take the Athens Attika Metro to get to the Parthenon (It's near the Monastiraki station).   [metafilter]

MEDIA DU JOUR: MP3 Madness!

Amazing collection of MP3s of TV stars singing pop songs -- goes way beyond the traditional Shanter-does-Lucy-in-the-Sky-with-Diamonds, including such rarities as Tony Randall doing "Nature Boy," Jerry Springer doing "Mr. Tamborine Man," and Ed McMahon singing "Thank Heaven for Little Girls." Lots more weird-ass rarities there -- odd Beatles and Stairway to Heaven covers, songs about chickens, und zo weiter.  [memepool => boingboing =>  and now here!]
