The Guerilla Girls have unveiled their latest project, an "anatomically correct Oscar" billboard at the corner of Hollywood and Melrose. Take a look at the Brando-esque redo of the statue and download stickers.

Weeds and Nativism: if you're interested in the history of plant invasions on U.S. soil (see post on 2/25 about National Invasive Weed Awareness Week), two great books: Alfred Crosby's Ecological Imperialism and William Cronon's Changes in the Land. Crosby's book, which is older, looks more broadly at successive waves of floral and faunal invasions of North America since about 800 AD; Cronon focuses on the way in which Europeans radically changed the North American landscape.

And more on art and nature as well: an exhibit called Natural Reality mounted in Aachen, Germany in 1999. The site below lists the 30-odd artists that were in the show, and provides a fairly representative sample of artists engaged with environmental issues.
