It looks like the company that hosts this blog/site is shutting down their hosting service for people using their individual blogging software. (Would have been nice to get e-mail from them about it instead of accidentally finding out 2 weeks after they announced it on their site. And just a month after I renewed for another year.)

See: http://productnews.userland.com/radioUserLandClosing

So... I have until Dec, 2009 to move everything. No big deal. At the worst I just dump it all out as html. Best case - I finish doing the Drupal thing in the next 5 months.

I'll make sure there's at least a downloadable copy of everything (fan fiction wise) available before then-- assuming anyone wants.

The Apprentice is now complete (Or as complete as I'll ever get it - I merged a couple parts instead of giving them their own part.).

Just like "Lady of A", I haven't moved it to the 'Completed Fics' page. There are still side stories I hope to do some day.

Check out the story idea "The Devil's Girl" (Link on the 'Ms. Kite' page.)

Not sure where it came from. Not sure it even works. It's set some point before Buffy runs into/rescues Rory. Or an alternate universe of that. Haven't decided yet. It'll be short. The prologue is mostly done and will be posted by Sunday.

The goal is to post the final chapter onJuly 18th, 2009. Assuming it turns into a readable story.

Okay...

I haven't had a chance to move this site elsewhere. Drupal doesn't quite fit the bill so I'll have to write something myself that does everything I want. Hopefully before Labor Day.

Until then... renewed for 1 more year here.

Updates to:

"Slayer Mercury" - I'm stuck on the scene where Buffy sees Sailor Mercury for the first time in the second part/ficlet. The 3rd part is much further along, though it still needs a scene (Buffy goes to the beach). It's the most I've written with Xander since 'Class of 99' - not sure if so much dialogue works.

And, I posted the first part to ff.net last weekend and got some interesting feedback. Unfortunately, I don't think part 2 is going to go over too well with some of them.

"Scooby Who - the next part is approx. halfway. And I've tweaked previous parts 3 and 4 - though not enough for anyone to notice (Maybe. Might not be an actual improvement.).

And there's a serious lack of inspiration for the titles of the parts to both stories.

I've been paying for a Yahoo Small Business hosting site (NeoCows link to your left) and I REALLY need to move this site to it. Or cancel it.

I've got two months before this site expires. If I don't move by then I'll need to renew it.

I'm probably going to use Drupal. It seems to have a bunch of modules I can combine into what I want.

We'll see.

Time to catch up?

Well... I didn't win a COA. But I came close.. missed one by 4 votes -- though the story that beat mine was by one of my favorite fic writers and was a much better story.

Several of my stories made it into the second round:

A Lady of Aquitaine - Best Portrayal of Other Character and Best Highlander Crossover

What the Molerat Saw - Best Cartoon Crossover

(Several others were nominated but didn't make the cut -

"Red Raider" (Series), "Other Girl" (Unfinished HP), "Slayer Mercury (Unfinished other), "Possible Dreams" (Best Cartoon). Not bothered by this. 2 are unfinished and the other two aren't the easiest to follow. 'Red Raider' isn't a single story line; 'Possible Dreams' is very experimental; 'Slayer Mercury' hasn't really gotten off the ground yet. 'Other Girl' isn't really standalone and reads better as part of the 'Red Raider' series.

Okay...

1. Fixed the link to the 3rd 'Interlude' in 'Lady of A' so it points to the correct page.

2. A revised version of "The Apprentice", Chapter 10 is now up. Nothing major - just some tweaks. Not sure when I'll get to the next chapter.

Thought I would start the new year with an update to an old fic.

"Lady of Aquitaine" - the Joyce is an immortal fic. I've finished part 4 (and I'll post it to TtH before the end of the night - warts and all)

Also, I've changed where I want to go with that one. The initial story is now done with Joyce and Dawn safely situated in Seacover. There will be at least 2 more short stories (interludes) - one about Xander and one resolving Joyce's Heinrich issue. Maybe a couple more. And then we'll join Oz in Sunnydale and eventually the bus will careen around to Seacover were we'll once more have a happy family (Not!) and tie up any loose ends.

Okay... "Jinkies - Scooby Who" Pt 4 is now updated correctly to match TTH (mostly). A early draft of part 5 is also online (well... maybe a quarter of it) - might get it done by the end of the week -- and then work on something else for a while.

Also fixed some link drift -- the page that lists different rating systems had some bad links on it -- they've been fixed.

Nothing major. Chapter/Part 3 of Jinkies/ScoobyWho should now match the version posted to TtH. I've also put up the 1st draft of Part 4. I'll probably post that to TtH later tonight... if I can ever think of a title for the thing (Nothing obvious jumps out).

Not sure what I'll be working on for the next two weeks of vacation (End of Year Holiday aka the Annual 'using up all the vacation I can't shift to next year'.)

I still have to do a little Xmas shopping and work on a work project that is due at the beginning of January but other than that.... it's fic writing (not sure which fic just yet) and a marathon of some tv series related to one of my fics. Not sure which one.

Okay... that new story has now joined my other WiP's.

At this stage, only the first part of the first section ( It'll be 10 parts) is done. Parts of part 2 and 3 are done. Everything after that is still up in the air though I want to finish it by the end of the month.

Expect from 2-3K words per part.

And it isn't action heavy. If the first section works out -- there is some doubt (the first few parts feel a bit dry/wordy to me) it'll be the first story in a series. Later sections will have the real action.

It IS very AU. Basically -- Wishverse Buffy survives Sunnydale. The events of the Stargate movie and tv show never happen but some of the characters are present. And someone falls through the Stargate while it is in storage while the Council of Watchers and US government argue over ownership.

I'm swamped at work. Late nights and weekends this/next month. Not a lot of writing going on...

But I had this idea that wouldn't leave me alone... It's a BtVS-Wishverse/Scooby Doo/Stargate crossover. In a vague sort of way.

It currently isn't posted here. It only exists on my laptop. Which needs a serious backup.

So the plan is... write this story (It's more of a backgrounder than an action story. Basically setup for a series I might write if I ever get some of the backlog out of the way.)-- Nothing new after it's done. Then work on some of my others.

Not in order -- old stories

  • Finish "The Apprentice" (2 chapters to go)
  • Finish the next section of "The Two" (aka thru part 18)
  • Finish off the first story in my Joyce-Immortal series (1 long part that's half written)
  • Finish the whole "Burrow" section of "The Other Girl" - Sort of stuck. The next part is already too long.

And... I'm going to try to get the 3 new stories I started this summer on a regular update schedule by the new year.

  1. Slayer Mercury - a series of standalone ficlets?
  2. Runaway - going to be shorter than originally planned. Several parts I'd planned to write are going to be told in flashback or similar. Probably become the beginning of a series of sorts.
  3. For the Benefit of Ms. Kite. -- Not sure what to do with this. I'm about 1/4 through it.

We'll see what happens. "Where the Books Are" is actually at the top of my "Most Requested to be Continued" list. But the muse seems to be staying very very far away from that one. Maybe after some of the backlog is gone?

The hardest part is finishing some of these stories off in a satisfying way without everyone getting that "Bored Now!" feeling from it. I've got too many stories that COULD become epics. But I'll never finish them if I treat them as epics.
