My pharmaceutical regimen:
- Ambien 2.5 mgs/night
Ambien is a sleep aid. One of the huge fibro/cfs issues is lack of restorative sleep. Most of us seem to have a tough time either going to sleep or staying asleep. 2.5 mgs is a ridicuously low dose but that seems to be just about right for me. I'm still not sure I like Ambien. I wake up quite a bit with it.
- Zyrtec 10 mgs twice a day
I've tried most of the antihistamines - Claritin (studies show that is not particularly effective), Allegra, Hismanal (pulled from the market), etc. Allegra worked very well for several years and then all at once last year it quit working for me. Fortunately, I also do well with Zyrtec.
- Advair 250/50 twice a day.
Inhaled steroids are absolutely critical to chronic asthma management.
- Flonase - two snorts in each nostril once a day.
This has really fixed my chronic stuffy nose.
- Magnesium 500 mgs per day
There is a whole school of thought that fibro/cfs is the result of a Mg deficiency. If nothing else, Mg is a great help for IBS-C.
- Calcium 500 mgs per day
You're actually supposed to take twice as much Calcium as Magnesium but I am too lazy to swallow twice as many of those Calcium horse pills.
- Vitamin C 1000 mgs per day
I really don't think Vitamin C is that crucial. But it's easier to just take it than deal with everyone telling me that I should be taking it.
- Vitamin E - 1000 IUs twice a day.
The E is a very effective canker sore preventative.
- Lysine - 500 mgs twice a day
Lysine is another canker sore preventative.
- B100 complex
I strongly feel this is the most important supplement I take. I went a year without taking any - I just got tired of the whole vitamin thing. I went back on it in January, and in concert with my bi-weekly B12 shots, I started to feel better within a month.
- Centrum Spectrum
The ubiqutous multi-vitamin.
