My Injection Regimen - The Slat Rat as pin cushion:

Today was shot day. I receive the following "jabs" (as the Brits would say) every two weeks:

  • Allergy Shot - vial one.
I've received allergy shots for 12 years. They are a huge help - they are the reason why I can still keep my cat Jasper. Up until recently, I used just one vial. However, my allergy doc decided to split my stuff into two vials - we've pulled the molds out into a separate vial - there is some thought that the molds might degrade the other goodies. Vial one contains dog, cat, and trees.
  • Allergy Shot - vial two:
Contains molds - I am violently reactive to those slimy guys. Vial two also contains grasses.
  • B12.
I am not someone who is swept up in the whole vitamin/supplements thing. However, I responded fabuously well to B12 and vitamin B100 complex. I am fairly certain my improvement is associated with B12. My energy level has move up from bone crushing fatigue to merely tired. A huge step.
  • Gamma Globulin.
As I was Googling for a good gamma globulin link, I read several articles describing how gamma globulin is extracted. I did not realize it was a "blood products" item. Oh goodie. But guess what? This is another one that has made a giant difference in my life. For 18 months, I was getting sick, very sick, every three weeks. No one could figure out what was going on. It had a hideous impact on my life - I couldn't be relied upon for anything. My self esteem sure took a beating. I was in bad shape both physically and mentally when I finally discovered my fabulous current CFS/FMS doctor, Lucinda Bateman. As a total flier she put me on gamma globulin. It took 6 months for it to really take hold. But it has, and I haven't been sick for three months. yea!

I have a huge shot phobia so all these injections once every two weeks is a challenge. But the allergy shots are pretty light weight. The only real nasty one is the gamma globulin - it has a peanut butter consistency, takes a long time to go in, and you get it right in the hiney. Fortutnately, my fabulous Nurse Practioner is British and they do their shots differently. They actually jab you - hard and fast. You'd think that approach would be awful. But there's little to no pain. So no one but Mary (my NP) is allowed to give me a gamma shot.
