I hope the concert finished relatively early, because from around 10 o'clock there was an astounding thunderstorm. Judging from the thunder and lightning, it was directly above Etajima, and it was so ferocious that for the first time ever, I found myself seriously considering what I'd do if my house was hit. With each flash of lightning, the whole sky was lit up with a harsh electric blue, and the thunder even made the windows and sliding doors shake. I thought the thunderstorms earlier this summer were incredible, but this made them look like a light drizzle.

After falling in love with my new keitai, I headed back into Kure via the Central Park (which I never even knew existed!), and called in at the international plaza to read The Times. As I headed back to the port, it was obvious that the preparations for the concert had entered the sound-check stage. Anyway, a car ferry is obviously quite high, and so from the passenger deck there was a great view... it turned out that the 'star' was none other than Hamasaki Ayumi! In Kure!

I have to say that my new mobile phone is superb, though! I opted for a phone without a camera (I have my Clie, not to mention a real digital camera), but there are still plenty of wow! points. The screen is beautiful, the email functions are great, the internet is speedy, and it folds up into the size of a (little) bar of soap. But the best thing?- one of the melodies (no 'ring tones' here!) is 'Have you ever seen the rain?', by Creedence Clearwater Revival! Superb, or what?

Had a leisurely morning, and then went into Kure to change my keitai. When the ferry got to Kure, it became obvious that there was some sort of event being held in the filled-in area next to the port- there was a huge stage, complete with floodlights, suggesting some sort of concert. The path towards the station was blocked, too, so I had to take the long, long way round, which was a real pain given the heat.
