New Product Development: Suggestions for success.. (SOURCE:
Susan Mernit's Blog: Navigating the Info Jungle)-
I especially like 'Prototype in low fidelity'. Often times users
have great ideas but think they can't communicate it to
developers. Prototyping software would be nice but you don't need
it; programming knowledge would nice (and if you really want to be a
great product or program manager understanding algorithms is a must
IMHO) but you don't need it. Give my your ideas in any form you
can. Sketch them on a scratch piece of paper. Give me index
cards. Use your digital video or still camera! Whatever will
communicate your idea is the best! Doesn't matter if it's low or high
tech!

Peterme's report on a student
Michael Winnick's preso on new product/new business development:
1. Accept change
2. Reduce barriers to actual users
3. Get everybody together
4. Prototype in low fidelity
5. Embody research, don’t report it
6. Make decisions explicitly
7. Validate embodied concept

If you are involved in developing a new product, as I seem to be starting to be, there are some
good notes here from Peterme.
