Life with a Pug

Day 9

Honeymoon - Day Nine

Date: January 19, 2002
Place: Miami, Florida

So, we woke up early, dressed, and packed up our carry-on bags.  We left the room and got breakfast.  Then, we went to one of the lounges and began to wait for the disembarkation.

Of course, we were the last color tag called off, so we had wait for over an hour - but we just read during that time.

Once off the ship we went to the taxi stand.  There were police out there to help people out.  Apparently there are quite a bit of people who don't know how to hail a cab.  We had two taxis taken from us by police and given to other people.  Getting a little fed up with this we just walked up a couple of hundred feet before the taxi stand and hailed a cab.  Bingo, we were on our way!

We took the taxi to our hotil in downtown Miami.  We checked in and then decided to go down to South Beach where the annual Art Deco Festival was taking place.  We wandered around, visited the venders' displays, and got lunch.  I found a great old shirt and we had fun just being out with everyone else.

It was fun to see everybody out enjoying the festival.

Art Deco Museum
The Art Deco Museum had several nice pieces inside.

We then spent a bit of time just sitting in the shade watching the people on the beach.  Then, at around 3:30pm, we met up for the tour we signed up for.  We were going to go on a boat tour of all the Art Deco hotels.

We were loaded onto a bus, which then took us to a water-taxi.  We had an hour boat ride accompanied with a lecture about the hotels and history of South Beach.

After we got off the boat, we walked several blocks to the Lincoln Street pedestrian area.  The area was full of shops and restaurants.  We stopped and had dinner at an Italian restaurant.  The food was really good and it was nice to eat outside in the warm Florida air.

After dinner, we walked the strip, stopped to get some stuff for breakfast, and then headed back to the hotel.  We set our alarms for the early early and went to bed.  It was a nice day, full of activity, which was a nice surprise since we hadn't planned anything!  But, alas, the honeymoon was over.
