Life with a Pug

Day 6

Honeymoon - Day Six

Date: January 16, 2002
Place: Cruise Ship -> San Juan, Puerto Rico

We woke up, got breakfast, and got off the ship.  We had signed up for the Bacardi Rum distillery tour.  We were loaded on a bus and driven across the city to the industrial area, where the Bacardi park was located.

It was 7am for us ( 8am for Puerto Ricans ) and we were at a rum plant for tasting!  So, we got loaded onto a tram and just sat there for awhile.  It seems the tour was delayed because of an accident in the distillery.

The tram ride started and drove us a few hundred feet to the Bacardi Museum - a one room display.  We got a short lecture on the history of the Bacardi family, their rum, and their other products.  Then, we had a quick walk-thru of the bottling plant (and I mean quick, a 5 yard platform, down the stairs and out the door! ).

Then, the tram just brought us back to the entry area - that was it!  We never got to see the distillery.  The accident was pretty bad I guess.  They even had the HAZMAT team there.

So, the tour basically sucked - we didn't get to see anything!  However, we were able to convince the driver to leave early and drop us off in the city.  We got off the van in the Old San Juan. In fact, we got off at the old fort.

We had such a good time exploring the structure and taking great photos all over it.  Also, it was a beautiful day!

It was really windy up there. Here's emily trying to hold on to her hat.

Next we walked to Columbus Square where there was a large statue of Christopher Columbus.  We then just wandered through the streets on the way back to the ship.

We re-boarded the ship, had lunch, and then napped!  We just tooled around and enjoyed the ship.  A relaxing day after the hot, rigorous morning.

After dinner, we went back to the room and emily fell asleep!  I wasn't tired yet, so I thought I would go try my luck at the Blackjack tables.  Let me just say, I will have no problems with gambling addictions.  Next time I will just save myself the effort and just hand over my $50 to the dealer.  After that, I just went back to the room and went to sleep as well.
