Life with a Pug

Day 2

Honeymoon - Day Two

Date: January 12, 2002
Place: Miami, Florida -> Cruise Ship

So we wake up quite early and catch breakfast.  Then we walk about 15 minutes to the Coconut Grove area.  Along the way, we pass residential areas with beautiful houses and lush flowering plants.  I try to perseude emily to move down here.  She says Florida is nice for mid-winter vacations, but she could never live there - "it's way too hot for me!!"  But I still try.

When we get to Coconut Grove, we walk around and check out all the closed shops.  I guess we need to wait an hour or two before the shops open.  Hmmm... so what are we going to do?  Then, emily spots a sign for the Barnacle House - a state park/attraction thing!  So, we decide to check it out.

It was a nice way to pass the time and enoy being out in the warm weather.  We walk the grounds and watch the bay.  A few photo-ops and the like.  It was a nice surprise.

Birds
This trip is now officially a business trip as I spotted birds.

After the Barnacle House, we stop at a cafe for a snack.  We order a fruit salad which blew our minds since we hadn't had fresh fruit in soooo long!  It was yummy.

So, now that the shops are open, we walk around again.  I buy a new pair of sneakers and emily buys a few pairs of socks.  We also stop for lunch in a place where I can get my much desired Cuban Sandwich!  I am finally satiated and now I'm a happy boy!

So, it's time to head back to the hotel.  On the walk back, I continue to try to convice emily that she could live in Florida... "nice try, hon!"  she says. We get back and pack up our stuff, check-out, and catch a taxi to the Port of Miami to catch our ship!

We get to the port, turn in our luggage, and get on the line to check-in.  That takes awhile, but it was easy and fun to see everyone starting their vacation.  Once on board, we check out our room and then get some lunch.  Then we begin to explore!

The ship seems so big - and it is - it's the largest cruise ship in the world!  Over three football fields long.  The decor is really nice - emily said that it's no floating Atlantic City like the Carnival cruise ship was... thank goodness!

On the ship, there's pools, jacuzzi's, putt-putt golfing, a rock climbing wall, in-line skate track, bars, restaurants, shops, a gym, spa, etc. etc. etc.  Lots of stuff to find and do... even ice skating!

After exploring, we watch the ship leave port and then head for dinner.  We are at a table that seats eight, but only one other couple joins us that night: Brian and Donna who are from Rochester, NY - go figure!  They are nice and we hit it off.  So much so that after dinner, we all go together to that night's show.

The show was an intro to the ship, encouragement to get to know each other and be friendly, etc.  There was also some comedy and dance numbers.  It was fun.

Afterwards, we walked around with Brian and Donna and went around the Promenade - the street of shops.  Then, we split up and emily and I went back to our room.  We changed, unpacked, then we decided to explore some more and have a snack at Johnny Rockets.  After yummy snacks, we came back to bed and go to sleep.  It was a full and eventful day and a great start for our honeymoon!
