Two things I've discovered
I'm a little surprised by a couple of things I've learned about myself after a week or so of maintaining this site (I hesitate to call what I've done so far "blogging," but then I'm a slow learner).
The first is how much I've depended on a couple of sources for most of my web browsing, specifically Doc and Dave. And it seems unnecessary to repeat their links; they've got a gazillion readers and I've got two or so, who probably already read Doc and Dave.
That leads to the second thing. I've always known that my tendency is to be a passive consumer. I consume a lot of information, and I know I'm unconsciously working it over all the time, but I don't immediately form an opinion or a verbal (meaning here, in words) response to the information I consume. Reading with a blog in mind, I will have to change in the way I consume information. I already notice that change a little. Its immediate effect is that I don't enjoy my blog reading quite as much as I used to. To read Doc or Dave without having to think about responding was one thing; to read them while on the lookout for something interesting to say is totally another.
