An interesting popup method

I haven't seen this one before: instead of using the onLoad of the body to open a window, it submits a form with the target set to a new window. Works around Mozilla's popup blocker... unless you still have the annoying "unsecured form being submitted" dialog turned on.

BulletWANT.

UPDATE: Photos of the Rio Karma. Some photos of those new Rio players have surfaced. The 40GB Rio Karma (pictured at right), which looks like it might possibly rival the iPod in size (it's hard to tell from the photo), has a street date of October 17th. Not sure about the other three players, but they'll probably be the same. Read [Thanks, John]... [Gizmodo]

All they have to do now is start SELLING it.

BulletMark your calendars.

Tomorrow is  "National Pray for Fox News Anchor Bill o'Reilly to Die Day". Sounds like a holiday to me. 8-)

It's my birthday, and I'll unplug if I want to. Besides being my birthday (w00t!), and Jason DeFillippo *and* Reid's birthdays (Thanks, Joi!), Tuesday August 5 is National Pray for Fox News Anchor Bill o'Reilly to Die Day, according to California gubernatorial candidate Larry Flynt. Fellow August birthday-boy and former BoingBoing guest-guest-blogger Macki from Rotten just told me he's here in Hollywood and planning to attend the service tomorrow in West LA, and promises to photoblog the crap out of it. Watch for Macki's images on Rotten.com sometime Tuesday. I won't be blogging or invoking anyone's death, though. Cory promised to FTP me a Lamborghini or IM me a new yacht, but I'm not sure I have enough bandwidth. (wipes cake crumbs off keyboard) Discuss [Boing Boing Blog]

BulletHey kids, let's balance the federal budget!.

If we start defunding in order of importance, we'll be done real quick and none of out pet projects will be threatened.

Just so you *know* the terrorism alert business is phony -- so there's no shred of doubt left in your mind -- today's Rovian terror warning coincides with the revelation that the Air Marshall program is going to stop putting marshalls on international and cross-country flights. Umm. So far, all the terror incidents on planes were on cross-country and international flights. While Bush shovels money to his richest campaign contributors, and Halliburton rakes in so much that no one can even count it any more, the Air Marshall program has to cut back because of budget. Of course, they aren't the only ones Bush isn't giving enough money to. Practically any program that really improves safety is underfunded or unfunded. I suppose the Air Marshall thing may be some bureaucrat playing hardball -- fund us or we'll cut the important stuff first. It makes for good publicity. But if they have to do this to get adequate funding, Bush should be fired. [licentious radio]

BulletDear Japanese people.

Great snarky photo-caption. Curmudgeons like the infamous and accomplished Jamie Zawinski are one of the things that I love about the Internet, 'cause they pop off photo-captions like this one:

Dear Japanese people:

Please stop exploring your sexuality. It really freaks us out.

Love, American People.
