After collaborating with Ann on the overall design, and getting her OK on his weird choice of plants, Christopher of Wildheart Gardens has gotten a good start on our back yard.

Anyone who has seen it, will tell you that Ann has done an incredible job on the front, but the back is too large for one person to tackle.  Especially when that person is the primary caretaker for a severely disabled spouse, works a very challenging ultra full-time job, and cares for our dog and house.

NEW:  introducing the Music Page. This is an experiment. In an effort to to make my music posts easier to find, I'm going to take them off the home page.  You'll notice a new link on the left side of the screen, below "Home." We'll see how it goes. Additional categories may follow. Comments are welcome.

PC Magazine: Top 100 Web Sites. "From the cerebral to the silly to the downright bizarre, the Internet is full of sites clamoring for your attention. But should you visit them? Well, that's a matter of choice (and personal taste). The editors at PC Magazine have browsed their share, and those listed here are our choice for the Top 100 Web sites. You'll recognize many of the names; others may be unfamiliar, but we hope all will be informational or at the very least entertaining."

It's that time of year again.

on the nod and in the pocket...

i haven't been able to write much of anything lately. seems i lost my edge about two weeks ago, right around the time that i had my morphine increased. take it from me sports fans, comfort isn't all its cracked up to be. a clear mind is.

ann and i have been extremely busy dealing with other things.  our neighborhood dog law revolution, a ferocious battle with our HMO (the evil fucks suddenly decided to quit paying for my infusion therapy after 8 months of positive results), putting in a new kitchen floor, and beginning what will probably be a two or three-year landscaping project -- among the more ordinary chores of daily life.

i've made a decision about this web site. I'm going to lay off of the political postings - unless something comes from other than a mainstream source, and is so compelling that I have no choice.  There are too many other places you can get that stuff. i intend to stick with what I know, what I love.

will return soon with new music info.

Defense Department Typo Results In U.S. Attack On Ira

ARLINGTON, VA—The U.S. Defense Department apologized to Skokie, IL, dentist Ira Nussbaum Tuesday following a bombing campaign aimed at removing the 37-year-old from power. "Apparently, the intelligence source who drafted the attack plan against Iraq failed to strike the 'Q' key hard enough," Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said. "The 'Q' was always a little stubborn on that keyboard. Sorry." This marks the first military action taken against Nussbaum since a malfunctioning shift key prompted Ulster Unionists to detonate his Ford Taurus in 1998. (The Onion)

Carter Wins Nobel.

Jimmy Carter Wins Nobel Peace Prize. Former President Carter won the prize today for his efforts to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts. By The Associated Press. [New York Times: NYT HomePage]

It was a slap in the face to him when Begin and Sadat won for their peace agreement when it was very skillfully brokered by Carter; he should have been in on that one. This is really a well-deserved slap in the face at our current war-mongering president. [Steve's No Direction Home Page]

Bob plays Piano. Well! Dylan's tour started last night in Seattle. Lots of really exciting stuff in the setlist. Some Warren Zevon and Rolling Stones covers, but Bob also played piano for the first time in concert in well over a decade. Hope he keeps it up; I've always loved his piano playing. A memorable moment for me was seeing him play piano on Ballad of a Thin Man at the 1974 afternoon concert in Seattle. [Steve's No Direction Home Page]

Oh man, I am psyched!!!!! As you know, I'm very upset about Warren Zevon's impending demise. Plus, this is going to be the first Bob concert I've seen in a few years.

It's been interesting, psychologically speaking. Since I've been in a wheelchair, I've only seen live music that was inside and in smaller venues.  I'm actually afraid to do this.  I'm afraid that I will be in too much pain.  I'm afraid that I will be too cold outside. I'm already angry that people will stand up in front of me and I won't be able to see. I'm afraid that the whole event will be too stressful for me, which will lead to other problems, as stress can easily do.  But mostly I'm afraid and angry because I am so afraid.  So I'm going to the fucking show.  Once I'm there, and the first song starts, I know that I'll be glad that I went.

My dad just sent me this joke.  It cracked me up, so I thought I'd pass it along.
--------------------------------------

1. The Wall Street Journal is read by the people who run the country.

2. The New York Times is read by people who think they run the country.

3. The Washington Post is read by people who think they should run the
country.

4. USA Today is read by people who think they ought to run the country but don't really understand the Washington Post. They do, however, like their smog statistics shown in pie charts.

5. The Los Angeles Times is read by people who wouldn't mind running the country, if they could spare the time, and if they didn't have to leave L.A. to do it.

6. The Boston Globe is read by people whose parents used to run the country and they did a far superior job of it, thank you very much.

7. The New York Daily News is read by people who aren't too sure who's running the country, and don't really care as long as they can get a seat on the train.

8. The New York Post is read by people who don't care who's running the country either,as long as they do something really scandalous, preferably while intoxicated.

9. The San Francisco Chronicle is read by people who aren't sure there is a country, or that anyone is running it; but whoever it is, they oppose all they stand for. There are occasional exceptions if the leaders are handicapped minority feminist atheist dwarfs, or someone who happens to be an illegal alien from ANY country, planet or galaxy or even a smooth-talking purjurious slimeball as long as they are a Democrat.

10. The Miami Herald is read by people who are running another country, but need the baseball scores.

11. The National Enquirer is read by people as they wait in line at the grocery store. Aside from MTV, Opra & Jerry Springer, it is usually their  only source for "current events."
