Object Arts announces Dolphin Smalltalk XP 5.0

Dolphin Smalltalk XP 5.0 will be released on May 3rd. Not XP like the M$ OS but like eXtreme Programming. What's new in this release:

a refactoring Browser (pro version)
a new redesigned package browser
a new system browser
a "Flipper" inspector (like the VisualWorks Trippy inspector)
possibility to view inherited methods at a glance
optimized image stripping (50% more than in v4.0)
production of single file executables
true in-process COM component
MVP (Model-View-Presenter/Controller) refactoring
improved class hierarchy diagram
and, of course, a new XP look and feel ;-)

AT&T Laboratories in Cambridge close

Sad news :-(

This lab was a great place for european innovation. It was the home of the well known VNC open source project. Hopefully the project is not dead and will remain available at this address.

"VNC stands for Virtual Network Computing. It is, in essence, a remote display system which allows you to view a computing 'desktop' environment not only on the machine where it is running, but from anywhere on the Internet and from a wide variety of machine architectures."
