Microsoft gave a strategy briefing to over 300 press and analysts yesterday. The focus was primarily on .NET. Jeff Raikes, group vice president of Microsoft's productivity and business services group, spoke at length about Groove. InfoWorld reported:
Raikes also touted a pact inked earlier this week with Groove Networks that will see the two companies integrate Groove's Workspace with Microsoft SharePoint Team Services, to enable information sharing among project teams regardless of geographic location.
The unique value (to Microsoft) of the Groove/STS work is that Groove affords offline and cross-firewall collaboration capabilities, previously lacking in their product offerings. Cool!
Raikes also talked about Groove Web Services (formerly "edge services") as a forthcoming excellent example of what real software companies are doing to enhance their offerings via web services. Jeez, we better deliver this stuff soon, eh... [Matt Pope's Radio Weblog]
